Bilateral political consultations with Israel
Ljubljana, 14 February 2019 – Today, political consultations between Slovenia and Israel were held under the leadership of Political Director/Director-General Matej Marn on the Slovenian side, and the Political Director of the Israeli Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Alon Ushpiz. The interlocutors advocated strengthening bilateral cooperation, and went on to exchange views on the situation in the Western Balkans and the Middle East.
They also confirmed the excellent relations between their two countries and expressed an interest in continued dialogue at the highest level.
They touched on the current situation in the Middle East, and the situation in Syria and Lebanon, including the wider regional context. They went on to exchange views on the Middle East peace process and the possibility of continuing constructive dialogue. Political Director/Director-General Matej Marn explained Slovenia's views on a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and stressed the importance of reviving the peace process. Slovenia is advocating for the EU to take a more active role and for a two-state solution.
The talks also touched on EU-Israel relations and cooperation in multilateral forums. Mr Marn then went on to outline current developments in the Western Balkans.
